Father in Prison, Child Exposed

Between 5% and 6% of children born in a specific year will experience one of their parents has to serve a prison term. This study describes the everyday lives and well-being of these children and young people.
The study provides knowledge about the significance for a child of a parent (especially a father) serving a prison sentence. The study does this by describing how different prison terms for parents with different family backgrounds impact the everyday lives and well-being of their children. The study also describes conditions for children, focusing on their material conditions, family life with a father in prison, their relationship with their father, and their daily lives at school and in their spare time.
The study uses register data, questionnaire surveys and qualitative interviews to identify the conditions for the children. The Egmont Foundation, Denmark funded the study, which was conducted by SFI - The Danish National Centre for Social Research.
