Main areas of work

A large share of Pernille Skovbo Rasmussen’s work concerns the daily life and wellbeing of children and adolescents. For instance, she has followed 40 children and adolescents aged 7-15 while they were being examined by the child psychiatry service for autism spectrum disorder, with the aim of investigating the families’ use of the diagnostic knowledge in the children’s daily life. She followed the families for 10 months after the examination process and investigated any development in the child/adolescent’s wellbeing in the wake of a mental health investigation. Moreover, she has been project manager for various investigations of interventions targeting, for instance, children with cerebral paresis, people with acquired brain damage and people suffering from various mental disorders. Through these projects, she has developed an eye for system-related challenges for creating optimum development opportunities for vulnerable population groups. Among her current assignments is a case review of 30 complex cases regarding support and interventions for children and their families, where the children have various somatic, psychiatric, social and school and crime-related challenges.

Methods

In terms of method, Pernille Skovbo Rasmussen possesses strong competencies in relation to including many different population groups in research, including children and adolescents, children and adolescents with autism and ADHD, and people with close-hand experience of serious illness or accidents. She has carried out numerous qualitative interview surveys, focus group surveys and observation studies, and she has extensive experience with questionnaire surveys of various population groups and professionals in the area of social and health care.

Background

Pernille Skovbo Rasmussen has an MSc in sociology from the Department of Sociology at University of Copenhagen, which is also where she obtained my PhD in December of 2018. During my PhD, she worked in close collaboration with The Capital Region of Denmark’s The Research Unit, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Centre, with which she is still in close contact. Pernille Skovbo Rasmussen has taken a semester at Department of Public Health, KU, and she is very interested in health sociology, diagnosis sociology and the field between sociological research and health research. From her previous work life, she has considerable practice experience from work with children with various handicaps and mental challenges.
